This unique and ambitious project, or rather a series of exemplary environmentally sustainable projects,  is being built on the 121 hectare site of the former Betteshanger colliery in East Kent.

scheme for regenerating the Betteshanger Colliery site

Located on the site of the former Betteshanger colliery, the Betteshanger Parks scheme will see the 121-hectare site transformed into a much-enhanced Country Park, including new Visitor Centre encompassing the Kent Mining Museum, and adjacent Business Park.

The Kent Mining Museum will be a core feature of the new Visitor Centre. Devised to celebrate and preserve Kent’s coal mining heritage, the the Museum will embrace a unique collection of oral history, archives and artefacts, many of which would otherwise be in danger of being lost forever.
The Country Park currently hosts a number of events and activities, which has included the world's largest inflatable obstacle course - the Beast - and Kent's newest obstacle course with over 40 obstacles throughout its 6km. Charity fun runs and cycle rides, as well as a full range of family-friendly activities also take place throughout the year.
